While on a plane from Richmond to Dallas, I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. It’s a fantastic documentary about a guy from Australia who was overweight and had some pretty bad health issues. He went on a 60-day juice fast and the results were incredible. I was inspired, not because I’m overweight or sick, but I feel like I needed some type of kick start for this year and I just wasn’t finding it. I haven’t been eating well, haven’t been exercising enough, and I felt worn out and uninspired. I decided to do a 10 day juice fast so I could have something that’s good for me to focus on, something that may help give me this kick start that I needed.
I bought a used juicer off Craigslist for $70, this one to be exact. I did some research and started on Saturday. I got all the recipes from the movie’s community site for The Reboot. These recipes are incredible. So delicious you wouldn’t believe it. I’m on day 6 and it’s been pretty tough, I will admit. This is a detox fast and I think my experience is different than a lot of people’s because not only am I vegan going into this but I was pretty sick the week leading up to it and barely ate anything. Days 1-4 were super easy and then Day 5 was super rough. I was cranky and starving. I think I am not drinking enough juice but I nearly quit. I realized how much comfort I find in food and also realized that that was totally ok. I eat a pretty amazing diet so luckily I crave pretty healthy foods, but last night all I wanted was popcorn. I talked myself out of quitting and here I am on Day 6 with 4 more to go. 4 days is a long time but I am going to get through this. And I am really happy I did it too. I feel amazing, have a ton of energy, and I am inspired and excited about a lot of things that are going on in my life.
